The tarot deck is made up of 78 cards, divided into two main categories: the Major Arcana and the Minor Arcana.
- Major Arcana: The Major Arcana consists of 22 cards that represent significant life events or archetypes. These cards are numbered from 0 to 21 and include cards such as The Fool, The Magician, The High Priestess, The Empress, The Emperor, The Hierophant, The Lovers, The Chariot, Strength, The Hermit, Wheel of Fortune, Justice, The Hanged Man, Death, Temperance, The Devil, The Tower, The Star, The Moon, The Sun, Judgment, and The World.
- Minor Arcana: The Minor Arcana consists of 56 cards that are divided into four suits: Wands (or Staves), Cups, Swords, and Pentacles (or Coins). Each suit consists of 14 cards: Ace through 10, plus four court cards: Page, Knight, Queen, and King. The Minor Arcana represents everyday events and situations in life.
The four suits of the Minor Arcana have specific meanings:
- Wands (or Staves): Represents the element of Fire and represents energy, creativity, ambition, and passion.
- Cups: Represents the element of Water and represents emotions, relationships, intuition, and creativity.
- Swords: Represents the element of Air and represents thoughts, communication, logic, and intellect.
- Pentacles (or Coins): Represents the element of Earth and represents material possessions, finances, career, and stability.
The court cards (Page, Knight, Queen, and King) in each suit represent different aspects of personality and can be used to indicate people or situations.
